- Project Overview -
As a personal design project last summer, I created a rotating photo cube inside of a house-like design using woodworking and applied knowledge from SolidWorks.
The inspiration comes from various photo-cube products I have seen online, instead using wood for all internal and external hardware. The photos are afixed onto small dowel rods, with a larger internal shaft connected to a handle, allowing the pictures to rotate.
I designed each dimension in SolidWorks, accounting for various tolerancing that would make the final design function. I then created 2-D schematics to follow for later dimensioning.
The entire project was made out of wood, manually marking, cutting, glueing, sanding, and painting the entire piece.
Integrating the handle was difficult, as the friction proved to be a large issue. In order to fix this, the size of the holes was increased and the primary shaft was sanded down to the specified tolerance within the original design.
The final design functioned as intended, rotating various pictures in a circle with the attached handle, operating under minimal to no friction.
