- Project Overview -
For my junior year manufacturing class, me and my engineering peers created a curriculum-wide Rube-Goldberg Golf Ball Machine with mechanical and electronic parts.
The first part of the project included an individual design, or 'contraption,' intended to connect within my sub-team and connect directly to the previous team's final contraption.
The second part of the project included combining three individual designs together to create one team Rube-Goldberg mechanism.
This sub-team design is then connected to the previous and sequential team's design.
The most challenging aspect of this project was designing the mechanisms to actually connect.
This involved working with previous, sequential, and inter-teams, syncing IR sensors and stepper motors to achieve a design that self-reset without infringing on mechanisms before and after.
Every team's design is then connected together, creating a large loop of mechanisms that, when a golf ball is placed at random, move the golf ball between all mechanisms seamlessly in a loop.
